Bangladesh has strongly condemned Israel's recent military strikes on Iran, underscoring the need for dialogue and respect for national sovereignty as essential elements for peace in the Middle East.
“Bangladesh unequivocally condemns the recent Israeli military strikes on the Islamic Republic of Iran, viewing these actions as a severe violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a breach of the United Nations Charter and international law,” the foreign ministry stated on Sunday.
According to reports, Israeli forces launched airstrikes on military facilities in Tehran and two western provinces of Iran on Saturday. Israel claimed the operation involved around 100 warplanes, while Iran reported four casualties among its soldiers and described the resulting damage as ‘limited.’
The Israeli military stated that its fighter jets targeted ‘missile factories and other military areas’ near Tehran and in western Iran.
The strikes follow Iran's retaliation against Israel's recent attacks on Iran-aligned forces in the region, with Iran firing over 200 ballistic missiles at Israeli military bases on October 1. Saturday’s airstrikes were in response to these missile attacks, escalating the cycle of hostilities.
“These provocations risk destabilizing an already fragile region, posing far-reaching consequences for both regional and global peace and security,” the statement read.
Bangladesh urged regional and global powers to leverage their influence to encourage restraint and help ease the rising tensions.
“We emphasize that a commitment to international norms, dialogue, and respect for sovereignty is paramount to maintaining stability within the Middle East and beyond,” the ministry added.
The statement concluded with a call for the international community to work collectively towards a stable Middle East, emphasizing that diplomacy and mutual respect remain the only sustainable paths to lasting peace.
