Left-arm spinner Nahida Akter became the first Bangladeshi female bowler to take 100 wickets in the T20 format after picking
up one wicket against Scotland in the side's T20 World Cup opener today at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE.
She just conceded 19 runs in her four overs as Bangladesh registered a 16-run victory to end their 10-year wait in the marquee tournament.
Nahida needed just one wicket to reach the magical figure but things looked gloomy for her when she failed to take a wicket in her first three overs. However in her last over, she got rid of Katherine Fraser to achieve the milestone.
Nahida made her debut against Pakistan in 2015, at the age of just 15. She reached 50 wickets milestone in 41 matches and completed a 100-wicket haul in
88 matches with an average of 16.82 and an economy rate of 5.72. She claimed five wickets twice in an innings.
The youngest member of the squad to make her international debut, Nahida Akter was just 15 when she took to the field against rivals Pakistan in September 2015.
Nahida was just 11 years old when she started her cricketing journey for her local school team. Four years down the lane, the youngster made her T20I debut against Pakistan on September 30th, 2015. Nahida had a sublime debut as she struck an impressive figure of 2/17 on her debut. A month later she was included in the 50-over squad against the same opponent and picked up the crucial wicket of Nida Dar in her spell.
Her best bowling figures of 4/11 came in the same format against the Netherlands in August 2019 ahead of being selected for the 2019 World T20 qualifiers in Scotland. In this tournament, not only did she gain valuable experience playing in all games, but she was also Bangladesh's leading wicket-taker, picking up nine from four games.
In addition to playing two global T20 tournaments for Bangladesh, was a key member of the squad in 2018 that defeated defending champions India to their maiden Women’s Asia Cup title.
At just 21 years of age, Nahida is vastly experienced and currently the fourth-highest wicket-taker with 50 wickets in 41 matches for Bangladesh in T20Is.
