Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, or BSMMU, has scrapped the recruitment of 544 doctors, nurses, and employees at its Super Specialised Hospital in Dhaka.

The decision came after multiple committees were formed to probe allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process, BSMMU Registrar Md Nazrul Islam confirmed, reports bdnews24.com.

“The recruitment process began in 2023 under the then vice-chancellor Sharifuddin Ahmed. The previous administration formed two probe committees, both of which found evidence of corruption and irregularities. Another committee was later formed to cover up the issue", he told the news media.

Nazrul continued, “After the fall of the Awami League government on the 5th of August, BSMMU’s administration also changed.

“The new administration formed another investigation committee in its first syndicate meeting. Based on its final recommendations, the exams have now been scrapped.”

“A fresh notification will be issued for recruitment,” he added.

He also accused former vice-chancellor Sharifuddin of hiring people for several positions without issuing advertisements.

On Jul 3, 2023, BSMMU issued a recruitment notification for 544 positions, including 96 consultants, 60 medical officers, 225 senior staff nurses, and medical technologists.
