Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has restructured its Emergency Response Team to ensure prompt medical care for Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus in the event of illness, urging the public to refrain from spreading rumours.

BSMMU has emphasized that this change is a "routine matter."

Following the emergence of an office order regarding the medical team’s reorganization on social media, the Chief Advisor's Office released a statement late Tuesday night, citing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md Sayedur Rahman.

"Such medical teams are regularly formed for state and government leaders. Everyone is requested to refrain from spreading rumours about this", the VC said,

"A team of doctors is always prepared to provide medical care for the government leader," he told bdnews24.com.

However, he said information about such an office order should not made available to anyone other than a select group of doctors.

"I will find out how this information got out tomorrow,” he added.

The office order, signed by Md Mustafa Kamal, the acting chairman of the Department of Anaesthesia, Analgesia, and Intensive Care Medicine at BSMMU, was shared on social media shortly after its issuance.

The order indicated that an intensive care unit bed has been prepared to ensure emergency medical management for Yunus, with seven doctors instructed to provide urgent night-time medical services.

The Vice-Chancellor later confirmed that emergency response teams have always been a standard practice in government. "This team has been newly formed, with previous members replaced," he stated.

He explained that the team previously included individuals responsible for the care of former government leaders and that the committee was reconstituted with the arrival of the interim government.

The Vice-Chancellor also noted the necessity for increased vigilance due to the Chief Advisor's residence being in close proximity to the Jamuna State Guesthouse, which is less than half a kilometre from the country’s first medical university hospital.

Earlier, on October 18, the Chief Advisor's Office reported that Yunus had received minor skin treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka the previous day but returned to work shortly after. He also engaged in dialogue with political parties on Saturday.
