The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted the development of one to three low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal this November, with at least one having the potential to intensify into a cyclone or depression.
In its November forecast released on Sunday, the BMD utilized data from World Meteorological Organization-approved agencies, weather patterns, upper atmospheric conditions, and climate models to inform its predictions.
In October, several low-pressure systems formed in the Bay, culminating in Cyclone 'Dana.' Meteorologist Shahnaz Sultana noted that the anticipated low-pressure system for November could emerge in the second week of the month.
The department reported that October experienced a 29 percent increase in rainfall compared to seasonal norms. In contrast, November is expected to see average rainfall levels.
Temperatures during the month are projected to gradually decline, remaining one to two degrees Celsius above the seasonal average. Rivers throughout Bangladesh are expected to maintain a normal flow.
The BMD also predicts light to moderate fog nationwide during the early morning hours, with dense fog anticipated in river basins. “While fog signals the beginning of winter, the full onset of the season is likely to be felt in December,” Shahnaz added.
Northern regions and certain other areas of the country are already showing signs of early winter, with morning dew sparkling on the landscape.
