The anti-graft watchdog has approved six charge sheets against deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and seven of her family members, including high-ranking government officials and Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakka (RAJUK) officers. The cases involve alleged abuse of power and irregularities in the allocation of 60 katha of land in Dhaka’s Purbachal New Town project.
According to ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain, the charge sheets were approved on Monday and will soon be submitted to the court.
On Jan 13, the ACC filed separate charges against Sheikh Rehana, her son Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, and daughter Azmina Siddiq Ruponti. Hasina is also named as an accused, alongside Tulip.
The ACC's investigation into Rupanti's case uncovered evidence that a fraudulent notary was used in the transfer of a Gulshan flat. Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya is the investigating officer and plaintiff in the case.
The Heba deed, dated June 9, 2015, listed Tulip Siddiq (Rizwana Siddiq) as the donor and Azmina Siddiq as the recipient. The deed stated that Tulip willingly transferred full ownership, title, and parking space of a Tk 2.3 million flat (B/201) on the second floor of a building in Gulshan Residential Model Town.
Supreme Court lawyer Gazi Sirazul Islam was listed as the notary. However, he told the ACC that while the notary seal used in the document resembled his, the signature did not match his own. He further stated that he only notarizes documents at his law chamber and does not recall notarizing the deed.
"I never notarized the Heba document," Sirazul told bdnews24.com. "I don't do notaries outside my chamber, and I don’t know Tulip or Azmina personally."
The ACC charge sheet states that Sheikh Rehana arranged a plot for Azmina after learning that Hasina had acquired or was in the process of acquiring plots for herself and her children. Tulip, as Hasina’s niece, allegedly benefited from this influence to secure personal or family advantages.
The former UK MP reportedly obtained a Gulshan flat through illicit means, making her ineligible for a 10-katha plot in Purbachal under Bangladesh’s Allotment of Land Rules. The ACC alleges she then fraudulently transferred the flat to Azmina using a fake notary affidavit and concealed the property's existence in income tax records since 2015.
Azmina was also ineligible for a Purbachal plot. To bypass regulations, she allegedly took possession of the flat without formally assuming ownership, ensuring that the plot allotment remained undisputed.
