The International Crime Tribunal (ICT) has issued an arrest warrant for Md Harun-or-Rashid, the former Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the anti-discrimination student protests last July and August.

The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, passed the order after reviewing a petition filed by ICT Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Rajul Islam.

Additionally, the tribunal authorized the interrogation of Sub-Inspector Abdul Malek and Constable Mukul Chokdar, both from Ashulia Thana, in connection with the alleged murder and burning of six students’ bodies. They are scheduled for questioning on January 30 and 28, respectively.

Bodies piled on a van: ICT says police burned one alive

Previously, on December 24, the tribunal ordered the arrest of former Dhaka-19 MP Saiful Islam and four Ashulia police officers for similar allegations. Authorities were also directed to submit investigation progress reports and bring the accused before the tribunal by January 26.

The ICT has been tasked with addressing crimes against humanity committed during the crackdown on the student movement, which sought to challenge discrimination and injustice.
