Another criminal case has been filed against 220 named individuals and 150 to 200 unidentified leaders and activists of the banned student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in connection with the July 15 attack on protesting students at Dhaka University.

Arman Hossain, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, addressed a press briefing at Shahbagh police station after filing the case this evening. He explained, “Since several key attackers were not named in the previous case, we have filed another complaint.”

This new case has been registered under Sections 326, 109, and 114 of the Penal Code. Arman added that not only the masterminds and facilitators of the attack are named, but also female BCL leaders who unlawfully obstructed the agitating students in the university halls, who are being accused under Section 341 of the Penal Code.

Among the key accused are BCL President Saddam Hussein, General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, Dhaka University BCL President Mazharul Kabir Shayon, General Secretary Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, Jagannath University Vice President Imrahim Sanim, and the Vice President of the Combined Private University BCL, Chowdhury Anm Nokib Ashraf.

Abdul Kader, another coordinator, emphasized that the masterminds, instigators, and key attackers were specifically implicated in this case. Arman further stated, “We took utmost care in identifying the attackers. After hours of diligent research and multiple reviews, we ensured that no innocent individuals were included among the accused.”

The coordinators expressed hope that more people would step forward to pursue legal action against Awami League leaders and their collaborators who have perpetrated violence and assaults over the past 15 years.

Earlier, on October 21, a criminal case was filed against 391 leaders from the Awami League, Jubo League, and banned Chhatra League, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at Shahbagh police station concerning the July 15 attack on the DU campus. In that case, around 800 to 1,000 unidentified individuals were also accused, as reported by Mahin Sarkar, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, who was also attacked that day by BCL members.

The press briefing was attended by Umama Fatima, spokesperson for the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and coordinator Rifat Rashid.
