Several Bangladeshi firms have entered into partnerships with Starlink to assist in setting up ground earth stations across the country.
The firms have signed collaboration agreements with Starlink as a team from the US telecommunications provider visits Bangladesh.
The collaboration encompasses space allocation, construction support, and ongoing infrastructure maintenance, according to a press release issued by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing on Saturday.
The visit allowed Bangladeshi companies to identify several locations of interest to Starlink. In some areas, firms are offering support through their own properties, while in others, Starlink is considering utilizing Hitech Park properties.
Discussions regarding locations and implementation plans are ongoing, said Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser.
Taiyeb expressed optimism that Starlink would provide reliable, high-speed internet in urban and remote regions of Bangladesh, including northern areas and coastal zones, free from disruptions caused by load shedding or natural disasters.
"Starlink will deliver uninterrupted, high-quality services. With telecom-grade fiber networks in Bangladesh being limited, and remote areas facing persistent power issues, Starlink will enhance daily activities and boost digital economic initiatives for our entrepreneurs, freelancers, NGOs, and SMEs," he added.
Taiyeb further noted that efforts would continue to establish a viable model with Starlink over the next 90 days.
On February 19, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus sent a letter inviting Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, to visit Bangladesh and formally launch Starlink's satellite service in the country.
Professor Yunus emphasized that Musk’s visit would allow him to meet the young Bangladeshi men and women who would benefit most from this groundbreaking technology.
Yunus also instructed his High Representative, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, to work closely with the SpaceX team to ensure all preparations are in place for Starlink's launch in Bangladesh within the next 90 working days.
On February 13, the Chief Adviser held a comprehensive telephone conversation with Musk to discuss future collaboration and further steps to introduce Starlink satellite internet service in Bangladesh.
