Visitors filled the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal on the last day of the month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair 2025.
Coinciding with the weekly holiday on Friday, a large number of shoppers and visitors from Dhaka and its surrounding areas began pouring in from the morning, with the crowd swelling as the day progressed. By the afternoon, the venue was packed with excited attendees.
Many left the fair with shopping bags in hand, taking advantage of attractive discounts on a variety of products, including household goods, food, electronics, and crockery. The "Buy One Get One" offers also drew significant attention, further driving the high foot traffic.
Some stalls are offering 20 percent to 30 percent discounts on various products on the final day, leading to booming business.
Shoppers and visitors from many walks of life from the capital and surrounding areas started coming to the fair. They are taking advantage of the discounts on the prices of various stalls.
The Export Promotion Bureau, or EPB, and the Ministry of Commerce are jointly hosting the fair, with furniture chosen as the product of the year.
As per tradition, the trade fair began on the first day of the New Year. Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the event.
This year, the largest product exhibition in the country features a total of 362 stalls and pavilions. Among these, 351 belong to domestic companies, while the remaining 11 stalls represent businesses from seven different countries.
The seven participating countries are India, Pakistan, Turkey, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.
The Dhaka International Trade Fair 2025 showcased an impressive range of products, including domestic textiles, machinery, carpets, cosmetics, beauty aids, electronics, furniture, jute products, household goods, leather goods, sports equipment, sanitary ware, toys, stationery, crockery, plastic items, melamine polymers, herbal products, toiletries, imitation jewellery, processed foods, fast food, handicrafts, and home decor items.
While vendors noted a surge in sales as the fair neared its end, many expressed concerns about not seeing significant profits. Despite calls for an extension of the fair’s hours, authorities decided against the request.
Russell Mahmud, head of Vision Pavilion in the main building, remarked, "Today's final day has brought a positive response from buyers and visitors. We’re offering a 20% discount on all products. Sales are decent, but there's potential for more."
Akhter Hossain, a salesman at a stall selling Tangail-woven sarees and three-piece suits, stated, "Sales are good today. Our sarees and three pieces are available at affordable prices."
One customer shared their thoughts, saying, "The fair in Agargaon was different, but this location isn’t bad. More foreign stalls would likely draw even more visitors."
Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin is scheduled to officially conclude the fair's activities in the afternoon, though the event will continue until 10 pm.
Held annually since 1995 to promote and expand Bangladesh's domestic products in the international market, the fair moved from Agargaon to Purbachal in 2022. This year marks the 29th edition of the fair.
The entry fee is Tk 50 for adults and Tk 25 for children under 12.
For added convenience, more than 200 BRTC shuttle buses will run daily from 8 am, servicing routes from Kuril Bishwa Road, Farmgate, Narayanganj, and Narsingdi to the fairgrounds. The last bus will depart at 11 pm.
The fare structure is as follows: Tk 70 from Farmgate to the fair, Tk 35 from Kuril Bishwa Road, Tk 120 from Narayanganj, Tk 90 from Narsingdi, Tk 80 from the fair to Gulistan, and Tk 45 from Gulistan to Narayanganj.
In addition to BRTC shuttle services, Uber has launched a special discount initiative this year, with designated pick-up spots for visitors.
For the first time, an online ticketing system was introduced, allowing visitors to purchase tickets and scan their phones for entry, reducing wait times at ticket counters.
