Express Report
  20 Jan 2025, 02:03

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has relaxed the policy on foreign travel for bank officials, according to a circular issued by the central bank Sunday.

The circular stated that bank officials and employees can now travel abroad for training, seminars, workshops, or study tours funded by banks.

However, officials must obtain permission from authorities concerned at their banks for such travel. This will come into effect immediately.

The directive is issued under the authority granted by Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991, the circular added.

In January, the central bank suspended bank-sponsored foreign trips and participation in educational activities, seminars and workshops abroad by central bank officials and employees. According to the directive, at their own expense, bank officials were able to travel abroad for medical treatment and Hajj.

Additionally, emergency medical treatment abroad, recommended by specialists, was allowed. Officials were also allowed to participate in training, seminars, workshops, and study tours fully sponsored by foreign organising agencies.
