Stocks continue losing streak

Prices of stocks continued their downward trend on Tuesday as risk-averse investors opted to take profits on shares that had seen quick gains.

The DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed down by 11.83 points, settling at 5,323.22. The DS30 index, which comprises blue-chip stocks, fell by 3.01 points to finish at 1,939.21, while the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) ended the day down 1.64 points, closing at 1,187.74.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of market activity, decreased to Tk 3,553.75 million on the premier bourse, down from Tk 3,665.54 million in the previous session. Out of 400 issues traded, 195 closed lower, 142 saw gains, and 63 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

BRACBANK emerged as the most-traded stock, followed by SQURPHARMA, ISLAMIBANK, GP, and AGNISYSL.

KBPPWBIL was the top gainer of the day, surging 9.97%, while TOSRIFA was the biggest loser, dropping 8.33%.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also experienced significant declines, with the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 51.01 points to settle at 14,961.74. The Selective Categories Index (CSCX) fell by 29.40 points, closing at 9,086.12.

Of the issues traded on the CSE, 95 declined, 70 advanced, and 28 remained unchanged.

The port-city bourse saw a total of 2.874 million shares and mutual fund units traded, with a turnover value of Tk 113.3 million.
