Memorial Plaque Unveiled in Jatrabari to Honor July Uprising Martyrs

A memorial plaque commemorating the July uprising martyrs was unveiled today on the circle of Jatrabari intersection while the circle was named as ‘Shaheed Oikya Chattar’.

Family members of the martyrs along with other political leaders unveiled the plaque with inscription of 48 names of the martyrs this afternoon while more ten names will be added to the plaque by tonight.

July Biplab Parishad, a Jatrabari based student-led organization formed following the students-people uprising, built the plaque to commemorate the martyrs of the uprising.

Before unveiling the plaque, family members of the martyrs reminisced memories of their nearest and dearest ones who sacrificed their lives to free the country from the fascist rule of Awami League (AL). 

Later, leaders of different political parties also spoke at the event. 

BNP leader Mohammad Nabiullah Nabi, Jagrata Bangladesh President Azmul Jihad and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party Minar spoke at the programme, among others. 

July Biplab Parishad permanent member Shahnewaz Fahad presided over the event while permanent member Asifur Rahman conducted it. 

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers demanded trials of all people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, involved in the mass killing during the students-people mass uprising. 

They urged the government to give financial assistances to the families of martyred and injured people and arrange better treatment for the wounded people immediately.

The speakers also demanded building memorials commemorating the July uprising martyrs across the country under the government arrangement.

July Biplab Parishad Convener Armin, Member Secretary Bijoy, permanent member Nayem Hawlader and spokesperson Shadhin Khan were present on the occasion, among others.

Nayem Hawlader said, “We continue collection of names of martyrs . . . once we get any name, we will include it on the plaque.”
