Home Advisor Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged Border Guard Bangladesh-BGB personnel to uphold professionalism and refrain from any misconduct at the border, emphasising that incidents like the Felani killing will not be tolerated.
At a meeting with senior BGB officials at its headquarters in Dhaka’s Pilkhana on Saturday morning, Jahangir, a retired lieutenant general, urged members to face challenges at the border with professionalism and avoid ‘shirking their responsibilities
“We do not want to witness killings like Felani’s again. Do not show your backs at the border. Perform your assigned duties responsibly,” the home ministry quoted him as saying in a statement on Saturday.
Jahangir also warned against corruption, saying: “Corruption will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Those involved in bribery will face strict punishment, including dismissal if necessary.”
He reminded the BGB of its primary responsibilities, including border security and smuggling prevention, and stressed the importance of professionalism in carrying out these duties.
BGB Director General Maj Gen Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, senior BGB officials, and all regional, sector, and battalion commanders attended the meeting via video conference.
