BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the interim advisors to resign from the government and face the people through elections if they want to remain in power.
He said, “We don't want to fight with you. Please complete the reforms at the earliest and hold elections. And don’t use any technique before that.
“We want to make it clear that the people of this country want parliamentary elections first, and then the local one.”
Pointing to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus and the advisors, he said: “If you have any desire, want to remain in the government or power, please resign and build the party that you are doing, hold elections, and face the people.
“We have no issues with the new party. But you cannot do it while holding on to power."
Fakhrul made the statements during his address to a BNP rally at Jashore Town Hall on Tuesday afternoon.
The rally was organised with numerous demands, including keeping the price of essential commodities at a tolerable level and announcing the election roadmap.
Referring to local government polls, the BNP secretary general said: “Again, I see some parties have begun saying that local government elections should be held first. They also sought time to create a proper poll environment.”
The BNP leader asked, "Would the environment come when the people of Bangladesh become impatient?
“Roads get blocked every day. Students and others are protesting over various demands. We are certain that if a government is formed through elections, then there will be an opportunity to solve the issues."
