Five people have died in a head-on collision between a truck and an autorickshaw in Jamalpur’s Sarishabari Upazila.
Sarishabari Police Station OC Chand Mia said the incident took place on the Jamalpur-Tangail highway in the Digpait Kargram area.
The deceased are Abdur Razzak, Nur Jahangir Alam, Abdul Karim Alal, Enam Fakir, and Ariful Islam.
The police were unable to reveal the identities of the injured.
Citing locals, OC Chand Mia said a sand truck from Jamalpur to Tangail collided with an autorickshaw carrying passengers from the opposite direction on the highway.
Four people in the autorickshaw died on the spot and another died on the way to a local hospital. One person was gravely injured.
Upon receiving the information, the Fire Service and Sarishabari police recovered the bodies of the deceased from the scene.
The autorickshaw was crushed, and the driver fled with the truck.
