Shaheed Asad, an Unforgettable Figure in the Democratic Movement’s History: Tarique Rahman

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said Shaheed Asad is an unforgettable name in the history of Bengali's struggle for autonomy and democratic movement.

Tarique Rahman said this Sunday in a message today on the occasion of Shaheed Asad Day.

Stating that this fearless 'soldier' sacrificed his life on the street to free democracy from the clutches of military dictatorship, he said that the fall of the dictatorship was accelerated following Asad's martyrdom and thus democratic rights of the people of this country were achieved.

The BNP’s acting chairman paid rich tributes to the memory of Shaheed Asaduzzaman in the 1969 mass uprising and prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul.

“Martyr Asad's sacrifice for democracy has inspired us in various movements and struggles in the next days. In such a situation, on this day, I consider protecting independence and sovereignty, ensuring people's freedom and strengthening democracy to be the most urgent task."

He called upon the countrymen to work unitedly to restore democracy.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said Shaheed Asad is an unforgettable name in the history of Bengali's struggle for autonomy and democratic movement.
