BNP Senior Joint Secretary General, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has said that it is nearly unheard of for a Member of Parliament (MP) from the UK to be involved in corruption. However, he claims that Tulip Siddiq, who belongs to the Sheikh family, continues to be embroiled in corruption despite becoming an MP in the UK.
"Tulip Siddiq was raised and educated in London. It’s almost unimaginable for an MP from the UK to engage in corruption. Yet, her family ties to the Sheikh family of Bangladesh seem to have influenced her actions," Rizvi remarked on Friday while addressing a memorial meeting on the martyrdom anniversary of ATM Khaled, the founder and convener of the Bangladesh Agricultural University unit of Chhatra Dal.
Rizvi also criticised the government, accusing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of signing a $5 billion deal with Russia for the Rooppur Nuclear Project, amidst allegations that her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and niece, Tulip Siddiq, were involved in taking bribes. He added that media reports indicate the money was withdrawn from a Malaysian bank.
Rizvi questioned India’s role, saying, "Why did India offer shelter to Sheikh Hasina at that time? What status does she hold in India today? Both of her passports have been revoked, yet India continues to shelter a corrupt individual and the killer of students."
He also demanded justice for ATM Khaled’s murder, asking why, after so many years, the killers have not been tried.
The meeting was also addressed by BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, Research Affairs Secretary Shamimur Rahman Shamim, and Krishak Dal Joint Secretary Shahadat Hossain Biplob, among others. The session was moderated by agriculturists Dr. Rashedul Hasan Harun and Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman.
