Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced that the party if elected to power, will form a national government in collaboration with all parties and groups that participated in their movement for change.

"We have been saying for a long time that if elected, we will not govern alone. We will establish a national government with those who stood by us in this movement," Fakhrul said on Tuesday. He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad (BSPP) at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka, marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

Fakhrul emphasised the BNP's commitment to fostering democracy and outlined the party’s 31-point reform agenda developed in consultation with other political groups. "Our primary goal is to create a democratic environment and ensure space for democracy in the country," he said.

Criticising the current administration, he declared, "We don't want Sheikh Hasina’s return or the Awami League's misrule. Their failure is our failure, and their success is our success. We are committed to achieving meaningful reforms that benefit the people."

Mirza Fakhrul reiterated the BNP's demand for urgent reforms in the electoral system and police administration before announcing an election roadmap. Highlighting recent student protests at Titumir College, he questioned the government’s preparedness: "Where was the intelligence? Couldn’t they have acted earlier to prevent such unrest?"

He also criticized the interim government, describing its members as politically inexperienced. "Politics is a science—it requires experience and understanding. Elections held promptly could resolve many of the country’s pressing issues," Fakhrul added.

The discussion, presided over by BNP Standing Committee Member and BSPP Convener Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, featured notable speakers including Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Teachers and Employees Unity Council Chairman Professor Selim Bhuiyan, former Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) president Professor Dr. Azizul Haque, and journalist Syed Abdal Ahmed.

Fakhrul’s remarks reaffirmed BNP’s position as a coalition-oriented party ready to introduce sweeping democratic reforms while continuing to criticize the current regime for its failures in governance and crisis management.
