Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized on Friday that holding the national election within a logical timeframe is crucial for overcoming the country's existing challenges.

Speaking to journalists after paying tribute to BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at his mausoleum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Mirza Fakhrul expressed hope that the interim government would organize the election on schedule. "We hope the interim government will be able to hold the election in due time," he stated.

The BNP leader, joined by party members and activists, placed a wreath at Ziaur Rahman’s grave to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day. The occasion also included prayers and blessings for the country. In observance of the day, the national flag was hoisted at BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan and other party offices at dawn.

Commenting on the activities of the interim government, Mirza Fakhrul noted its significant efforts over the past three months. “I believe that if we all cooperate with the government and if they can hold the election within a logical timeframe, it will be possible to confront the challenges the nation is facing,” he added.

He criticized the Awami League regime, accusing it of conspiring to weaken the BNP through repression and torture. He claimed that the previous government filed false cases against 6 million people and that approximately 700 individuals were victims of enforced disappearances. “They aimed to establish fascism and one-party rule by killing and forcefully disappearing thousands,” he remarked.

Mirza Fakhrul celebrated the mass uprising of August 5, stating it had overthrown authoritarianism and defeated fascism. “Today, we have pledged to resist any form of authoritarianism. If needed, we will launch a powerful movement,” he declared.

Prominent BNP leaders present at the event included National Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, along with Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, and central leaders Aman Ullah Aman, Khairul Kabir Khokon, and media cell member secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie.
