Students staged a demonstration early Tuesday in protest of the Jatiya Party's decision to declare Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, the top two coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, 'persona non grata' in Rangpur.

The agitated students organized a procession that began at the Medical intersection of the city around 3:30 am, parading through various streets, including Shaheed Mukhter Elahi Chattar and Check-post, before returning to their starting point.

"Wrongdoers Must Be Tried": Sarjis Alam

The protesters chanted various slogans during the march. They later held a rally attended by representatives of the student movement.

At the rally, speakers warned of resistance against the Jatiya Party unless the party issued an immediate apology. They asserted that the Jatiya Party had no authority to declare Sarjis and Hasnat 'persona non grata.'

Earlier, Md Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, Co-Chairman of the Jatiya Party and former mayor of Rangpur City Corporation, declared the two as ‘persona non grata’ in Rangpur until they retracted their statements regarding the party.
