Quota reform: RU Chhatra League leaders room vandalized, 20 motorcycles torched

In response to the attack on anti-quota protesters, widespread vandalism has been carried out against the Chhatra League leaders and activists at Rajshahi University (RU), nearly 20 motorcycles were torched outside the hall on Tuesday.

At least 10,000 agitating students involved in the movement were stationed near the university's main gate, adjacent to the Rajshahi-Dhaka highway.

They marched with sticks, rods, and pipes in hand, chanting anti-quota slogans.

Meanwhile, Chhatra League activists were stationed at the Kajla gate of the university and in Binodpur Bazaar.

At around 2:30pm, the Chhatra League activists locked the gate of all halls. Leaders of the Chhatra League were seen doing showdowns on bikes on campus.

Around 3pm, enraged students entered the campus from Binodpur Bazaar with slogans, almost all students were seen carrying sticks. They brought out the students who were stuck in the hall.

At this time, Chhatra League leaders clashed with students later they left campus by bike.

Later, the enraged students targeted the RU Chhatra League President Mustafizur Rahman Babu’s room in Bangabandhu Hall and General Secretary Asadullah-Hil-Galib's room in Madar Bux Hall and carried out extensive vandalism.

At least 20 motorcycles were set on fire under the hall and outside, burning down the beds and igniting fires.

When the proctor of the university, Professor Asabul Haque, was called on his mobile phone to find out the overall situation, he disconnected the call.

To maintain law and order situation, four platoons of BGB have been deployed.
