Dhaka Central Jail authorities have dismissed a recent newspaper report alleging that three high-profile detainees were receiving food delivered from their homes, labeling the claim as "entirely baseless and untrue."

The senior office of the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj issued a statement on March 6, 2025, refuting the report titled 'Salman, Anisul, Shahjahan eat food delivered from their home', published by a mass circulation newspaper. The statement was signed by Senior Jail Superintendent Suraiya Akhtar.

The statement criticized the report for lacking credible evidence, asserting that such publications undermine the positive efforts of the prison system and mislead the public, potentially affecting the morale of jail officials and staff. It further noted that the report fosters a negative perception among inmates' families and erodes public trust.

Since July 2024, the Keraniganj Jail, the country's largest correctional facility, has operated with greater transparency and accountability, in strict adherence to prison laws, regulations, and directives from the prison directorate, the statement emphasized.

Authorities stressed that routine activities, including inmate visitation, mobile communication through designated booths, medical care, jail canteen services, money deposits, food quality, and searches to prevent the smuggling of illegal goods, are all being carried out with increased caution and vigilance.

The statement concluded by reaffirming that the Dhaka Central Jail is now operating with higher levels of transparency and accountability than ever before, and called for the publication of fact-based reports to further improve the facility's operations.
