Zia Family Endured Widespread Torture Under AL Regime

BNP leaders at a memorial meeting Sunday said the Zia family was subjected to brutal torture during the previous Awami League government as deposed Sheikh Hasina did not even allow former premier Begum Khaleda Zia, her sons Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman to get their basic rights to treatment when they were sick.

They were addressing the meeting and a doa mahfil organized by BBN News.com at the capital's Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) marking the 10th death anniversary of prominent sports organizer Arafat Rahman, the youngest son of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, and Khaleda Zia.

Md. Yunus Mridha, former joint convener of Dhaka City South BNP, addressed the meeting as the chief guest with BBN News Chairman Shafiqur Rahman in the chair. 

Md. Yunus Mridha said during Sheikh Hasina's government, the law enforcement agencies dragged the sick Arafat Rahman to jail and imprisoned him while Begum Khaleda Zia was not allowed to go abroad for treatment. 

Dhaka City South Jubo Dal convener Khandaker Enamul Haque Enam, former Vice President of Dhaka City North BNP Md. Lutfar Rahman, Joint Secretary General of Zia Parishad Central Committee Md. Shahidul Islam Shahid, former student leaders Mazharul Islam Belal and Belal Ahmed Sani and BBN News Executive Editor Md. Humayun Kabir also spoke.
