One person has died in a clash between quota reform protesters and Bangladesh Chhatra League activists in front of Dhaka College on Mirpur Road in the capital, police say.
Around 5:15pm on Tuesday, an unidentified individual, aged around 25, was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with injuries and pronounced dead by doctors, DMCH police outpost in-charge Bachchu Mia.
He added that 60 injured individuals have been brought to the hospital from various areas, including Dhaka College and Science Laboratory.
As part of the ongoing anti-quota movement, after 12pm on Tuesday, protesting students blocked the Science Laboratory intersection near Dhaka College, starting a demonstration that halted traffic on Mirpur Road.
After noon, a series of chases and counter-chases began between the protesting students and Chhatra League members. The clash that started around 4pm spread to Dhaka College.
Amid the clashes in the Science Laboratory area, the sound of five handmade bombs exploding was heard. Seven injured people were taken from the scene to various nearby hospitals.
Reports have also been received of one death in Rangpur and two deaths in Chattogram in clashes with quota reform protesters.
