US President Donald Trump

President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to make sweeping changes quickly upon returning to the White House, focusing on issues such as immigration reform, trade wars, and national security.

Immigration
Trump promises a hardline stance on the estimated 11 million undocumented migrants in the US. He intends to declare a national emergency at the US-Mexico border, unlocking additional funding and resources. He also aims to end birthright citizenship, although this faces constitutional challenges.

Trade Wars
Trump has proposed imposing a 25% tariff on goods from Mexico and Canada, citing their failure to curb drug and migrant flows. He has also threatened to introduce further tariffs on Chinese products to combat fentanyl production.

January 6 Pardons
Trump has hinted at pardoning some or all of the individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot, referring to them as "political prisoners" and suggesting his supporters will be pleased with his decision.

Middle East and Russia
Trump warns of "hell breaking out" in the Middle East if Hamas doesn't release Israeli hostages, though he took credit for a ceasefire deal brokered by the Biden administration. He also promises a swift end to Russia's war in Ukraine, although his specific approach remains unclear.

Climate Policy
A climate sceptic, Trump vows to "drill, baby, drill" for oil and gas, rolling back Biden-era climate policies and ramping up offshore drilling.

Transgender Rights and Race
Trump pledges to end what he calls "transgender lunacy," including barring transgender individuals from the military and schools and cutting federal funding to schools promoting critical race theory.

TikTok
Trump also promises to save TikTok from a ban, offering a solution that involves a potential 50% US ownership stake in a joint venture.
