Strikes hit south Beirut after Israeli evacuation orders: Lebanon news agency

Express Report

At least 10 airstrikes hit the southern suburbs of Beirut at dawn on Friday, Lebanon’s official news agency reported, following evacuation orders issued by the Israeli military for buildings in the area.

AFPTV footage captured explosions followed by thick plumes of smoke in the city’s suburbs as Israeli forces ordered evacuations in Hezbollah-controlled areas.

“The raids caused extensive destruction in the targeted areas, leveling dozens of buildings and igniting fires,” the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Israeli warplanes conducted strikes on multiple suburban locations, including Ghobeiry, Al-Kafaat, the Sayyed Hadi Highway, areas surrounding the Al-Mujtaba Complex, and the old airport road, according to the NNA.

Israel’s military has intensified its bombardment of southern Beirut in recent weeks, while also launching deadly strikes elsewhere in the capital and throughout Lebanon.

Friday’s strikes occurred a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. officials to discuss a potential resolution to the conflict in Lebanon, as the death toll continues to rise on both sides of the border.

Since Israel’s air campaign against Hezbollah strongholds began on September 23, at least 1,829 people have been killed in Lebanon, according to an AFP tally of health ministry figures, though the actual number is likely higher.
