Dengue Hospitalizations Surpass 60,000 as 1,154 New Patients Admitted

Four people have died from dengue, and 1,154 additional patients have been hospitalized with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), as of Wednesday morning, 415 new patients were admitted to hospitals in various areas of Dhaka’s two city corporations within the last day.

Additionally, 221 patients were admitted to the Dhaka Division, 44 to the Mymensingh Division, 132 to the Chattogram Division, 145 to the Khulna Division, 65 to the Rajshahi Division, 36 in the Rangpur Division, 94 to the Barishal Division, and 2 to the Sylhet Division.

With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 60,574 this year. A total of 290 people died among them.

As many as 3,966 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country, including 1,952 in the capital and 2,014 outside Dhaka.

The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. In 2023, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged, and 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
