Court Orders Freezing of Golap Family Bank Accounts, Seizure of 9 U.S. Properties

A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of nine immovable properties in the United States owned by Awami League leader and former Member of Parliament Abdus Sobhan Golap and his family.

Additionally, 53 bank accounts linked to Golap and his family have been frozen under the same directive.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Sunday in response to a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ACC's Court Inspector, Amir Hossain, court sources said.

The seized immovable properties and frozen bank accounts include those of Golap, his wife Gulshan Ara Mia, his son Ivan Sobhan Mia, and his daughter Anisha Golap Mia.

These also include a five-storey house in Mirpur in the names of Golap, his wife and children. The court also ordered the seizure of nine immovable properties in the United States—eight are single residential condo units and one is a dual-family unit.

The court further ordered the freezing 53 bank accounts belonging to the former MP, his wife, and children.

Earlier, on Oct 2, 2024, the same court imposed a travel ban, preventing him from going abroad.
