Dr. Khalilur Rahman, High Representative to the Chief Adviser on the Rohingya Crisis and Priority Issues, has urged the Rohingya community to unite and articulate a collective stance in preparation for the upcoming International Conference on the Rohingya Muslims, scheduled to take place at the United Nations (UN) later this year.

“A unified position from the Rohingyas, as primary stakeholders, will be instrumental in shaping an action-oriented outcome. This, in turn, will lay a robust foundation for their sustainable repatriation,” Dr. Rahman emphasised.

The call was made during Dr. Rahman’s visit to the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, where he engaged with a cross-section of forcibly displaced Rohingyas, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The decision to hold the International Conference was adopted by consensus during the UN General Assembly in September 2024, following an appeal by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

During his interactions, Dr. Rahman encouraged the Rohingya community to refrain from illegal and violent activities, urging them instead to channel their efforts positively toward resolving their crisis.

In response, participants pledged to constructively work toward establishing a common platform to articulate a unified position for the conference. They also expressed deep gratitude to the people of Bangladesh for their hospitality and extended profound thanks to Professor Yunus for his steadfast advocacy on their behalf within the international community.

Dr. Rahman also met with representatives of the UN system providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas. During the meeting, UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting the Chief Adviser, Dr. Rahman, and the broader efforts for a successful conference outcome.

“We stand fully behind the leadership of the Chief Adviser and the High Representative in addressing the Rohingya crisis and advancing the goals of the International Conference,” Lewis stated.
